Emma, Angela and Nikki, her high-school friends, come from more middle-class backgrounds, but they're tight with Patti. They love to cut classes, hang around on the street, smoke and chew the fat about guys.

When Nikki, who was Ivy League-bound, commits suicide, the seniors are stunned. Reading her diary and realizing that their late friend's frustrations and helplessness with male-oriented society reflect their own, the friends form a sort of feminist syndicate. They take the eternal fight to each of the male oppressors who did them wrong. -- Desson Howe
