The Australian actor, 28, has revealed he has no interest in replacing his friend and mentor Hugh Jackman in any upcoming Marvel films.

Dacre, who is best known for his role as school bully Billy Hargrove in Netflix hit Stranger Things, had been tipped as a possible replacement for Hugh, but he told The Daily Telegraph this isn’t on the cards for him.

The rumours gained traction after it was reported Hugh Jackman would not be reprising his role in the upcoming Deadpool film.

Dacre had supposedly been up against the likes of Taron Egerton, Paul Mescal, Milo Gibson and Daniel Radcliffe for the iconic role.

He said his friendship with Hugh, who offered him guidance early in his Hollywood career, was more important to him than landing a big franchise role.

He has instead set his sights on grittier roles.

Dacre, who most recently starred as TV director Steve Binder in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, says he is attracted to meatier scripts with character development.

‘I feel like it is an amazing opportunity as a newcomer in the Australian acting world to craft my own story,’ he said.
